The infographic is organized in four sections as follows:
Check Your Assignment
LCC students are responsible for understanding what is acceptable AI use in each course and each assignment:
- Has your instructor provided instructions on how GenAI can be used in the course syllabus or assignment?
- Do you understand the guidelines?
Talk to your instructor after class or email questions like “Can I use AI to do …?”
Prioritize Your Learning
GenAI cannot replace important opportunities for learning. Remember that your unique voice, creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills do matter!
- Is AI contributing to my learning or being used as a crutch?
- How can I use the tool to support my learning?
- Am I using AI tools to do the work to complete an assignment?
Seek help at LCC with a librarian or a tutor. They are available to help you develop life-0long skills such as: outlining, search strategy, and other critical skills. Use the links that follow to contact a librarian or a tutor.

Protect Your Personal Information
GenAI tools collect your information. Never provide personal information or protected information (like your driver’s license or bank information) and think carefully about all information you share.
- Do I know what information is being collected while I use an AI tool?
- Have I shared identifiable or personal information with GenAI?
Verify Outputs
Don’t assume that a GenAI tool is giving you accurate information!
- Can I determine if the GenAI output is good quality?
- Have I verified the information provided by GenAI?
- Can I locate the full text of the original source (citation)?
Check claims made by GenAI!
