Eligibility for Library Services

Lane students, staff, and faculty may check materials out from the LCC Library, place Summit and interlibrary loan requests, and access online databases from remote sites and on campus.

Community Borrower Card

Residents of the Lane Community College District, volunteer staff, and affiliated researchers may purchase a Community Borrower Card. Card holders can check out books from the LCC Library, place interlibrary loan requests, and access online library resources while in the main campus library. Academic licenses for databases restrict the use of databases to community borrowers from remote locations. Certain ebook collections are not available to Community Borrowers.

Reciprocal Borrowing

Lane students, staff, and faculty may check out materials from libraries with which Lane has a reciprocal borrowing agreement. Students, staff and faculty from these libraries may check materials out from the LCC Library.

Summit Borrowing is available to Lane's currently enrolled students and current or retired faculty and staff members. Summit is the online library catalog for the Orbis Cascade Alliance, a library consortium composed of 37 public and private colleges, community colleges, and universities in the Pacific Northwest. LCC Library has a reciprocal borrowing agreement with all of the Alliance institutions.

LCC Library also has a reciprocal borrowing agreement with Bushnell University (formerly named Northwest Christian University).

Materials for In-Library Use Only (Non-Circulating)

Reference books, newspapers, microforms, college catalogs, and maps are for in-library use only. Most periodicals and course reserves, and some videos, are also restricted to in-library use. Microform reader/printers and copy machines are available; compliance with current copyright law is the responsibility of the user.

Appeal of Library Charges

You may appeal if you believe the library charges are mistakenly assessed or extenuating circumstances warrant reduction or cancellation of the charges. Appeals should be made within 30 calendar days of the original Library Charge.

A notice of overdue items is sent as a courtesy reminder. Non-receipt of an overdue notice does not exempt you from fines or charges. It is your responsibility to assure that a current mailing address is in your library record (you may also include an email address). You may appeal by completing an Appeal of Library Charges form available at the Circulation desk. You will be told about the outcome by mail.

The Circulation Services Coordinator’s decision may be appealed to the Library Director within two weeks of receipt of the initial decision. The Library Director will make a decision in writing within two weeks of receipt of the appeal.

Reasons generally not regarded as valid for canceling or reducing charges:

  • Lack of knowledge of library policy
  • Disagreement with library fine or fee structure
  • Inability to pay fees and charges
  • Material loaned to a third party
  • Non-receipt or late receipt of library reminder notice
  • Returning items to libraries other than the Lane Community College Library
  • Being out of town
  • Forgetting the due date
  • Term breaks, leaves, vacations, exams, car problems, etc.
